Recording stories from the parents

The Arus Kualan Traditional School invites young people to work towards preserving and celebrating the cultural heritage of the ancestral community. The Arus Kualan Traditional School encourages the younger generation to record and collect traditional stories and knowledge from their parents and elders, using various media such as writing, sound recordings, and documentaries.

This activity is an important step towards ensuring that the unique cultural practices and beliefs of the Dayak Simpang Hulu community are passed on to future generations. This provides an opportunity for young people to learn from their elders and gain a deeper understanding of their heritage. By recording and documenting their community’s stories and traditional knowledge, young people can help preserve and celebrate their community’s rich cultural heritage.

Apart from that, the youth in Arus Kulan were also invited to actively campaign for Indigenous Peoples. This is an important aspect in preserving Indigenous culture, because the struggles faced by Indigenous Peoples are often related to issues of land rights, language and cultural identity. By engaging in these campaigns, young people can gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by their communities and be empowered to advocate for change.

The Arus Kualan Traditional School is an innovative initiative that helps preserve and celebrate the Dayak cultural heritage specifically for the Dayak Simpang Hulu. In addition, by encouraging young people to get involved in campaigns about Indigenous Peoples, this activity helps raise awareness of the issues facing Indigenous peoples around the world.
