Sakolah Adat is an informal education system in Indonesia Province Kalimantan Barat, Regency Ketapang in Simpang Hulu, which is designed to teach traditional knowledge and values to the younger generation. The students who attend Sakolah Adat usually do so after formal school, and some students only attend Sakolah Adat. The program is held every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and students often come to read, practice dance, and engage in other activities during the week.

Most of the learning activities in Sakolah Adat are held outdoors, and students are taught how to use traditional medicines, cook using bamboo, and find vegetables in the forest. They also play traditional games in the field and visit the homes of elders to hear stories and learn about traditional knowledge.

In addition to outdoor activities, students also engage in indoor activities such as learning literacy skills, traditional music, dance, and song, and making handicrafts and traditional clothing. English language classes and coloring activities are also included in the curriculum.

Currently, there are two Sakolah Adat programs in Ketapang Regency. The first program, located in Tahak village, has 85 students, while the second program, located in Sungibangsi village, has 30 students.

Sakolah Adat is an important part of Indonesia’s efforts to preserve traditional knowledge and values. By providing an informal education system that focuses on traditional culture, Sakolah Adat helps ensure that younger generations understand and appreciate their cultural heritage.

Sakolah Adat Arus Kualan is a unique institution that provides a space for the new generation to learn about traditional knowledge and local wisdom. In today’s era of modernization, it is important to preserve the cultural heritage and practices that have been passed down from generation to generation. This school aims to connect students with elders who still possess traditional knowledge and practices, creating a bridge between the past and the present.

One of the main objectives of Sakolah Adat Arus Kualan is to invite students to love and cherish everything that has been done by their elders as a traditional inheritance. This includes everything from the forest and land, to traditional music, dance, stories, games, medicine, treatment, philosophy, food, and weaving. By preserving these traditions, Sakolah Adat Arus Kualan is helping to create a new generation of traditional youth who are intelligent, disciplined, dignified, and creative, while still maintaining their identity as indigenous people.

Back to Village

To achieve this, Sakolah Adat Arus Kualan has initiated the “Back to the Village” movement, which aims to invite indigenous youth who are studying in the city to return to their villages and share their knowledge with their communities. This movement ensures that traditional practices are passed down from one generation to the next and encourages the preservation of cultural heritage.

However, Sakolah Adat Arus Kualan also recognizes the importance of modern knowledge and technology. They strive to strike a balance between traditional and modern knowledge, ensuring that traditional practices are adapted to modern circumstances and new knowledge is incorporated where appropriate.

In conclusion, Sakolah Adat Arus Kualan is an important institution that provides a unique and invaluable space for the preservation and promotion of traditional knowledge and practices. By creating a bridge between the past and the present, they are helping to create a sustainable future for indigenous communities, while also ensuring that cultural heritage is not lost in the era of modernization.
